During my project, ‘’Defining Identity’’, I wanted to define my identity as designer and to create my own philosophy or a characteristic handwriting. A quest for what I stand for. As a designer I think it’s important to know what statement you want to make and how to express or translate this. The focus of this project is also mainly on the search for my identity as a designer. During this project I apply this through a spatial design and I use a pavilion as a medium.
After looking at my previous projects, I noticed that all my project met the program of requirements and aesthetically it was complete, but I wasn’t completely satisfied. The designs felt inanimate to me. These projects could also be translated or designed by any other designer.
Inspired by earlier well-known designers or architects from the creative world, the question arose in my mind; Who am I as a designers?
That’s why I wanted to look for an extra layer in my design and working methods. A scientific layer with a specific philosophy. A philosophy in which a part of my personality could be recognised.
The challenge was to merge contrasts. Merging my personal interests with my Moluccan Culture. This wasn’t only a project to promote my Moluccan culture, but mostly to remind myself (and others) not to forget your past or roots, but to merge it with the current possibilities to enhance your identity.
This is how I defined my identity as a designer.
