How far can acoustics go? irido utlizes Computational Acoustics commonly employed among the most celebrated concert halls in the world, coupled with lab measurements at TU Delft to make informed decisions on acoustic properties, offering a level of portability and modularity that surpasses traditional surface diffuser counterparts (i.e. QRD and skyline) and conventional physical acoustic effects (i.e. echo chamber and corridor).

Named irido, the acoustic installation aims to enhance audio/acoustic experience in enclosed spaces and is designed to be circular, modular and portable. This is a MVP that only exist in one space at a time, meant to serve as placemaking tool and optimize acoustics for music performance. By community engagement and experimenting, irido is leveraging serendipity to inspire others to adopt or design their own circular acoustics treatment.

irido is picked up by AMS institute for their startup booster program subsequently conducting qualitative in depth interviews with potential stakeholders such as Architecture firms (UNStudio, Fokemma) and facilities managers that draws valuable insights on product fit, showcased at Schiphol Airport, Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd, Mikser Festival in Serbia and with its acoustic properties measured at TU Delft, with upcoming showcase at Glasfabriek Schiedam in the Netherlands.

Artist statement

With previous experience in Music production and Game Audio, Jeremy Leung is diving deep into the realm of acoustics and researching on how to optimise experience in conventional recording studios.
He ongoing thesis propose a 4DoF Sonic Crystal Hybrid - irido, backed by objective data and subjective evaluation. Recently also worked on sonic branding for Kaboom Animation Festival (NL).

Third Place

I initiated Third Place focus on community building, leading a crew boardcasting nationwide music ensembles (KABK, CvA, HKU) coming from diverse background. I handles curation, storytelling, and re-recording mixing more than 10 sessions including Marc Scholten (Metropole Orkest, Utrechts Conservatorium) and Adam Quartet, which the outcome is recognised by the management at University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU).

TAD - Circular Urban Acoustic Barrier

TAD is an circular urban acoustic barrier that tackles urban noise annoyance (i.e. Road Traffic). Acronym of Ternary Amplitude Diffusion, Ternary diffusion [1, 0 -1] matrix based on Maximum length sequence (MLS) is adopted backed by an absorption substrate, with in-situ measurement reduces noise up to 12dB.

TAD is implemented with plywood, soil, bamboo and willow, with the front as insect hotel and rear, a community garden that meant to be a placemaking tool for spatial planning.

TAD is part of maker residency in Chemnitz, Germany, EU Capital of Culture of 2025, CNC prefab at Vector Lab Kreativachse and assembled on site.
